The Department of Public Works and Highways dived into partnership with the local government of Koronadal City as the agency began construction works on expanding vital highway in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the DPWH aims to facilitate improvement of economic activities in the city by solving traffic congestion along Cotabato-Marbel Road and Bolok Bridge through road widening projects.

TALKING POINT
“DPWH, in partnership with local government units, is committed in contributing to solve traffic congestion in the country as it has long been impeding our growth,”
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar
One of the key roads in downtown Koronadal, the Cotabato-Marbel road along Alunan Avenue, will be upgraded into a six-lane road, adding two more lanes to the present four lanes. This project is expected to cut travel time, especially during rush hours.

The P43 million road widening project, which involves the construction of a 1.5 meter sidewalk with a curb and gutter, is expected to be completed on March 2020.

The Bolok Bridge expansion project, on the other hand, constitutes a 3.66 meter roadway increase in each direction, including construction of concrete railing and sidewalk. See photo below:
