CARAGA produced P44-billion worth of minerals last 2018

Top mineral commodity produced in the region are nickel ore, silver and ore. CARAGA Region occupies the northern and central part of the Eastern Mindanao Gold District, one of the principal gold belts of the country.

A total of P43.6-worth of minerals had been produced by several mine operators in CARAGA region in 2018. This is according to a data published by Mines and Geosciences Bureau.

Top mineral commodity produced in the region are nickel ore, silver and ore. CARAGA Region occupies the northern and central part of the Eastern Mindanao Gold District, one of the principal gold belts of the country. The nickel resources of the region are in the form of nickeliferous laterites, soils of unique geochemistry derived from the tropical weathering of parent serpentinized ultramafites.

Nickel Ore accounted the biggest share in the total mineral production with value amounting to P22.2-billion. Gold production, on the other hand, valued P6-billion in the said year. It can be noted as well that Nickel / Cobalt Mixed Sulfides totaled around P15-billion worth of production.

Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation topped as the largest mineral commodity producer by total value of production last 2018. The company produced more than P20-billion worth of mineral products last year. The mining company is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd., a large Japan-based company engaged in mining, smelting and refining of non-ferrous metals, sales and manufacturing of advanced materials, and others.

In 2017, local taxes, fees and royalties amounting to P6.51 billion was generated and contributed to the Philippine economy.
